We’re delighted to report that the first phase of the King's Hall Health and Wellbeing Park in south Belfast has been handed over to developer Benmore Octopus by construction firm H&J Martin.

TODD Architects are working with developers Benmore Octopus on the design of the innovative health park masterplan located on the former Balmoral showgrounds in south Belfast.

The park will improve access to healthcare services for patients, provide much-needed quality retirement living and act as a hub for life sciences companies in the south of the city. It will also help protect and preserve the iconic King’s Hall building that once played host to music acts as diverse as the Beatles and U2 and was the setting for boxer Barry McGuigan’s first title defence in 1985.

Planning approval was granted for Phase One of the scheme in December 2018 and includes works to the King’s Hall and a new 40,000sqft extension for ancillary medical facilities. Pharmaceutical diagnostics firm Diaceutics has been confirmed as the first tenant in the precision medicine hub Dataworks, with TODD Architects appointed as their fit-out designer.

Benmore Octopus director David Burrows said: "We are delighted to have completed construction of Dataworks; it marks a major milestone in the transformation of the site to become the King's Hall Health and Wellbeing Park and the next step on our mission to create a hub for the global life sciences sector.”

The overall site will offer a range of integrated and onsite health, community and leisure facilities, masterplanned to create a village feel and sit comfortably within an established suburban area of the city. It will include a primary care facility in the King’s Hall and also include elderly residential care facilities consisting of independent living apartments and bespoke homes for the over-55s (subject of an earlier approval with construction commencing site in March 2021), as well as resident’s gym facilities.
