Drive thru retail experts Urban Edge featured in Property Week

The drive through is one of the hottest retail property assets in the UK right now, with food- and drink-to-go businesses facing fierce competition for prime sites in a sector that has been supercharged by the impact of the global pandemic.

As one of the UK’s foremost out-of-town retail specialists, our client Urban Edge Architecture has been working with owners, developers and operators of retail assets for a good number of years, reviewing portfolios of development and advising on the opportunities that exist to integrate asset classes and maximise the value of their sites. The practice’s experience in drive thrus dates back to the very beginning of the business when they undertook a large portfolio review of 60 Little Chef sites with a view to converting several to Burger King drive-thrus just before the 2008 recession. Since then, Urban Edge has built around 11 Drive Thrus and 9 Drive Tos for a number of well-known brands, with another three to start on site imminently and approximately 10 currently in various stages of design.

It was important for the practice to articulate this expertise to its target market and showcase how having existing relationships with all the major operators, understanding their specifications and typical requirements, ensures Urban Edge can immediately assess what can be achieved on a site, quickly make the appropriate decisions for each scheme and be more efficient in how they’re delivered.

Satellite MPR organised a roundtable of Urban Edge’s key experts in the drive thru sector to discuss the scope of the current market, challenges and opportunities. From this discussion, we created a number of pieces of compelling content aimed at the practice’s target market for use on both the Urban Edge website and social media channels, as well as to pitch externally – culminating in a piece by Urban Edge’s Dave Frost appearing in Property Week that you can read HERE.
